Letters To December - A Video Project

3 Dec 2014

Hello lovelies!

I think we can all agree, that when it comes to consistant blogging I might be one of the worst bloggers on this planet and I apologize for that!

Uni started (I'm going to talk more about that soon) and I just lost track of everything Internet-related and I only now am getting back into the swing of things. That said, I'm trying to keep a blogging schedule in the new year (Also going to talk more about that soon).

If you're not following me on tumblr or on youtube, you've probably missed the project that I'm doing in December, which is called "Letters To December". It is a wonderful way to just form some thoughts into words and pictures and be a bit creative every day.

It can also be a collaborative project and I've already talked to some people on tumblr and youtube who'd like to participate. If you think this would be something that you'd like to do, just comment or message me and I'll talk to you a bit about the details. You don't have to have a youtube channel or any prior knowledge of video-making. It doesn't have to be perfect, which is what I like about it so much!

I kindly borrowed the idea from one of my favourite youtubers Emily Diana Ruth, you should check her out!

I just wanted to keep you a tiny bit updated with what's going on, I'll hopefully be back with more frequent blog posts soon!

Hope you're heaving a great December,

Jill x

Easiest Home-Made Hummus Ever & Eggplant Sandwich

4 Oct 2014
Hummus has always been something I've associated with the country my parents are from: Israel. Only in recent years I've seen it pop up everywhere and so it was finally time to have a go at it myself.

I'm not going to lie: my hummus tastes nothin like store-bought hummus, but it's delicious in it's own way and that's what counts, right?

Ingredients:

for the hummus
  • 500g chickpeas (either canned or not, we'll get to that later)
  •  1 1/2 lemons
  • olive oil
  • rosemary & basil (they grow on my balcony, but just take anything you think will taste good)
  • salt & pepper
for the sandwich
  • 1 eggplant
  • 1 tomato
  •  toast
  • salad
  • salt
Just remember there are no rules! Add any herbs you want, throw in some paprika or a whole bunch of lemons, whatever tastes best for you!

If you got canned chickpeas you can skip this step. Personally I prefer the dry ones, since they're cheaper (and where I live chickpeas can get quite expensive).

If you're lucky there are instructions on the package, but if not, then here I am to help out. It's quite a long process though, so if you plan to eat hummus for dinner, it's best to just start with the first step in the morning, before you head out.

1. Take as many chickpeas as you like and put them in cold water for about 8 hrs. The ratio should be 3 cups of water for every cup of chickpeas.

2. Once they've soaked up most of the water, let them cook for 2-3 hrs on low temperatur until they're smooth.

3. I didn't have a hand-held blender and I really recommend getting one for this, but I had to opt for the normal blender... And don't fill it as much as in the picture, you won't get any results that way, whoops. Blend it up and add olive oil if you feel it's getting stuck to often.
I wasn't very patient so I didn't really get it smooth, but tell me if you managed to!

4. Add the rest of your ingredients and voilá: Hummus!

Now let's go to the Sandwich part, which I kindly borrowed from one of my friends, who's an absolute genius at cooking!

1. Cut up your eggplant into thin slices and sprinkle salt all over it to get rid of the bitterness.

 2. Roast them in a pan.

3. Cut up the tomato and the salad and put all of that on a toast. Well done, you!

This meal is both healthy and SO tasty, I really recommend you try it out, tell me if you do!

What's your favourite healthy meal? I'm always collecting new recipes <3

See you soon,

Jill x

How To Be A Happy Blogger

29 Sept 2014

Hello my lovelies,

I'm currently at a bit of a blogging crisis here, so if you'd be so kind to listen to me, you'd make my day!

I've been doing this blogging thing for some months now, but I don't consider myself a blogger or anything of the sort, sadly. It all started with tumblr for me, where I gained an incredible amount of followers within 2 years and gave me the courage to be myself, at least much more so than in the past. It also opened my way to youtube and lastly to this little blog here.

In the past couple of months I haven't really been active on all of those sites and that is definitely my own fault. So here are some points, with which I hope to better myself at what I do and create better and more enjoyable content. Who knows, maybe they'll be helpful to you, too?
  1. Don't compare yourself too much to other bloggers. It's good to get some inspiration, but don't think you're worse, because you don't post the same content as them.
  2. Create content you are proud of and would want to read yourself. Take photos you think are pretty, showcase your editing skills, show personality, write about whatever you want, but don't create bad content only because you want to post something.
  3. Don't try to fit yourself into a specific genre. You're a multilayered human being and that's what your blog can be, too. Too many guidelines and rules lead to a creative block.
  4. Get in touch with the blogging community. One of the most enjoyable things is to interact with other bloggers, so comment, comment, comment!
  5. But remember, your blog is YOUR blog. Only you decide what to post and when to post, it's your personal space, so have courage to make the posts you really want to make!
Do you agree with my points? What makes a happy blogging experience in your opinion?
I'd love to know!

See you soon and hopefully much less stressed about blogging,

xx

OOTD - Ja, In Bavaria

25 Sept 2014

Hey there lovelies!

After what seems like an eternity I'm finally back with an outfit post. It's currently Oktoberfest-time here in Munich (which is a huge beer-festival, where everyone dresses up with traditional clothing) so even though I'm the farthest away from being a traditional, bavarian girl, of course I had to own one.

I like styling mine down with some edgy shoes and lots of bracelets, but yep, couldn't say no to the flower crown, could I? If you know where the title is from btw, you get a gazillion cookie-points :3

See you soon,

Jill

August Favourites | Bands, Hair Dye & More!

7 Sept 2014
I'm so excited to share my first monthly favourites ever with you! Well, yes I'm a tad bit late, since it's already well into September, but I guess we all know by now, that I never do anything on time... Any tips on becoming more organised?

I'm going to out myself as a complete nerd in this one, but that's a not very well kept secret anyway, with me having a pretty huge following (at least for my standards, it's so much more than I could ever grasp! By the way, did you see my 10k followers thank you Q&A?) over on my fandom tumblr.
Weirdly, I've struggled a bit with posting geeky things on here, but what is a lifestyle blog if not a place where you can share every aspect of your life? So without too much more rambling (I seem to do that quite a lot), here are my August favourites!

Beauty & Fashion

I always have a few items out of my jewelry collection that I'm obsessed with for some time, until I re-discover the next items. So these were the ones I loved most of August. Funny, how all of them resemble/are flowers...

Directions Tulip & P2 Couture Lip Polish & Stain 050 Ultimate Shooting | I'm really not one for quality/expensive make-up & beauty products, so this one is really cheap. But what I loved about it, is how it basically has the same colour as my hair currently and... yep I'm that lame.

Media
Swallow Tailed | I mentioned them in my last blog post already, but let's just talk about them again. Basically, there was this free festival here in Munich with lots of amazing acts to see and I fell in love with almost every act I saw (And I saw MANY, free live music? I'm game!) And Swallow Tailed where just one of the few that really stood out to me, so of course I had to get the Ep + the tote bag. Of course... They're a lovely, young local band and their music style is so light and happy. Here's an acoustic version of one of their songs 'Gold'. Little Trivia fact: It's filmed on the ground where the Oktoberfest usually takes place. :3

Everything Is Illuminated by Jonathan Safran Foer | Okay so I read this as an E-book in English, but it's much nicer to have actual pictures of a book, so this is the hebrew version my parents own.
I really loved the book. To be honest, it has been a long time since I read a book that fast and was so deeply taken by it's subject and writing. I'm not going to post a full review here, obviously, but if anyone wants me to write one, I can do that in the future. If you've seen the movie, I would really recommend to check out the book as well, as it contains so much more!

Doctor Who Series 8 | Umm... yeah so that's my Doctor Who DVD collection. I was so terribly excited about season 8 and up til now it hasn't disappointed me yet. Plus I've been re-watching a lot of older episodes with several friends, there's really nothing better than sharing something you love with people you love, even if it is a weird 50 year-old sci-fi show.

The Last Of Us Remastered | I'm not too much of a gamer, though I love gaming. So when my brother borrowed a PS4 plus several games from his friend, it was a nice surprise. I think that everyone must have at least heard of The Last Of Us by now, so I'm not going too much into depth on this one, just that it's really as unique and brilliant as I've heard. Plus, sitting alone in a room when it's dark outside and playing this is sure to give you nightmares...

Misc.
And lastly milk-substitutes. Wow, how exciting. No, but really I've been trying out lots of different milk substitutes, such as the two pictured above (Soy and Oats, Oats is by far my fave). And I feel lighter, my skin has gotten much better and also less calories - yay. So that's definitely a recommendation!

Well, now we know how lame I actually am, but that's okay! :3
What did you love in August?

See you soon,
Jill

Collective August Fashion Haul

3 Sept 2014
Well I haven't posted in quite some time again, as you might have noticed! I am terribly sorry, especially since I'm beginning to really love the blogging community here and all the lovely people I've been starting to talk to!

I think part of that is due to me having SO MANY different blogs overall, that it really gets too much for me to keep up with everything sometimes. Anyways, I'm not complaining at all! I love doing everything I do, I just have to get better at organising.

Very sorry for rambling, let's get on with the actual post!

So August was very rainy and cold here, which might explain, why the haul is a mixture between summery and wintery stuff. Also I'm quite broke at the moment (oh the tragedy!) so I'm mostly buying from sales or flea markets. But to be honest, I think it's best that way!

Clothes

Vero Moda 3 for 20€

Flea Market (but originally from Zara) 5 €

Accesories

My friend gave this to me so I don't know what this costs. But it's the cutest flower crown I've ever seen, I love it so much!!

Flea Market 3 €

Swallow Tailed Tote Bag 3 €
I absolutely love tote bags so I couldn't pass up on this one. This month there was a summer festival in Munich, where you could go and listen to tons of bands for FREE and Swallow Tailed were just one of the best of them!

Thank you so much for reading (and not giving up on me yet!). I have a lot of posts planned already so there will definitely be some more coming soon.

Well now I have to catch up with the 300+ posts I've missed,
Love,

Jill

The Liebster Award

18 Aug 2014

Hello lovelies!
Excuse my lack of blogging recently, I hope to return to more frequent & interesting posts soon <3
I've actually been nominated by two lovely bloggers, Andie from Andieology and Sammy-Jo from Lover Lost In Space (go say hi to them for me :3), for this award, so I thought I'll just pack it all into one post. Thank you so, so much for nominating me, it made me incredibly happy!

The rules
1. Link back to the person that nominated you for the award
2. You must write 11 facts about yourself so people can learn more about you.
3. You also have to answer the 11 questions given by the nominator
4. After completing this, you should nominate 11 other bloggers that have under 200 followers and then give them 11 questions of your choice. However, you cannot nominate your nominator
5. You have to let your nominees know that they've been nominated and give them access to the link to find out more about the award.

Eleven facts about me
1. My actual name is not Jill, it's Gili, but I think it sounds like one of the teletubbies.
2. I am going to university in October (that is if I don't mess up due to procrastination) and I am so nervous, it's really bad!
3. I am really bad at these fact thingies. Either that, or i'm just really boring :P
4. I am incredibly one-track-minded, which means that I can't really focus on more than one thing at a time. (this is especially bad, if you have a blog, a tumblr, a youtube channel, recording music and are also trying to not fail at life.)
5. Creating and sharing my 'creations' with people, is one of the most rewarding things in life for me, nothing makes me quite as happy.
6. I am incredibly geeky, but you wouldn't notice it right away if you met me in real life aka a closeted geek.
7. I am what I call a 'lazy perfectionist' which basically means, that if I don't think I'll succeed at something, there's no point for me in doing it at all - I SHOULD CHANGE THAT.
8. I am very sarcastic and sadly I enjoy bad puns WAY too much.
9. Colours make me so so so happy! I think this is the main reason I dye my hair, so that when I look at it it'll make me happy.
10. I drink horrifying amounts of tea.
11. My Internet followers are honestly the best thing that ever happened to me, and I am so greatful for all of their/your support!

Questions from Andie
1. What made you start blogging in the first place?
I had a tumblr for a year and youtube for about half a year and on none of those places I was comfortable posting about fashion and diy's and so on, so I just started something entirely new!
2. Where is your favourite place in the world?
London. I really do feel at home there.
3. What is your favourite TV show?
Doctor Who and I am so excited for the new season this Saturday!!
4. What is the last movie you saw at the cinema?

5. What is your favourite animal?

6. What would be your ideal date?

7. What is the nicest present you've ever recieved?

8. If you were stuck on a desert island who would you like to be stuck with?
Definitely with someone who wasn't afraid of spiders and insects like me, so that they could just swat them away :D
9. Can you play any instruments?
I play the guitar but I would want to play so many more!
10. Who is your favourite fictional character?
I'd have to say Alanna of Trebond by Tamora Pierce, though she's not really well known. I grew up with her, I read the books at least 12 times and she'll always be very special to me.
11. What is your favourite clothing store?
Vero Moda, though what I see of Topshop is gorgeous (we don't have it here, sadly)

Questions from Sammy-Jo
1. What is your favourite season & why?
Either Autumn or Winter, because I can cuddle up with a good book and a cup of tea, wear lots of layers and eating too much sweets is totally fine.
2. Why did you decide to blog?
I saw what others did and saw the lovely community and I just wanted to be part of it.
3. What are 5 things you have on your bucket list?

What's In My Bag | Summer Edition

3 Aug 2014
August is finally upon us, which means lazy days in the sun and adventures with friends. I especially love the evenings! Sitting with my buddies next to the Isar, the river going through Munich, or in a park, having a cold beer and chatting or playing guitar is just wonderful!

And to show you how I last throughout a longer day outside, here I am to share with you what's in my bag in the summer time:

  1.  A little book. I'm usually carrying one around wherever I go. It's so useful for a long train journey or if you're just sitting there and waiting for a friend - let's be honest they're always late!
  2. A Notebook & a pen. I'm always jotting down ideas, whether for blog posts, youtube videos, songs or just little sketches, a notebook is an absolute necessity!
  3. My purse. Where I keep all of my cards and money and the one or the other random photo.
  4. A hair band & some pins. In case it gets too hot even for my short hair.
  5. A mirror. This little thing is so useful! It's a mirror and a hair brush in one, and it's so small and light, perfect for the occasion where you want to check on your smudged eye liner or just get your hair into a better shape.
  6. A solid perfume. I got this little thing from my aunt a few years back and it's just the cutest little thing. It's Cherry Blossom from L'Occitane (lovely smell!) and while I'm almost never putting it on, it's always beside me - just in case, you know?
  7. A fan. I really don't go well with heat, so sometimes a fan is unavoidable for me. It is very cute, and while it might look a bit stupid to flutter this thing in front of your face, it's pure bliss on a very hot day!
  8. My phone & some ear buds. Duh.
  9. Various lip products & chewing gum. I always carry lip balm and one or the other lipstick & -gloss around, in case I need it. Same goes for some chewing gum.
  10. Some Sunnies. Instant coolness level achieved and obviously they're incredibly useful!
  11. I usually pack a bottle of water as well, I just forgot it on the picture, whoopsie...
So that's what I always carry around with me, what's the item you couldn't go without in the summer?
Hope you all had a lovely July, see you soon,

Jill

Backyard Thrifting

28 Jul 2014

Hello my little duckies! One of the things I love most about Munich, the city I live in, is the sheer number of activities it offers. For example district backyard flea markets. It was my district's turn this Friday and while I didn't sell any of my own stuff this year, I could enjoy the other items even more! Sadly I didn't find anything I liked enough to buy, but just going around, peeking into people's backyards, getting to talk and joke with different people, is fun enough!

Every house participating was marked with colourful balloons, which was just so adorable!

I went with my lovely friend Miriam (Miri for short), who is - let's be honest - too gorgeous for her own good. We've been friends since second grade and it's always so fun to spend time with her!

It was getting dark at the end and the sky was lit with the most beautiful colours (photos can never capture it, really)

After walking for some hours we finally sat down and went for a cheeky snack (potato sticks & radler, which is a very german thing I think, basically beer + lemonade, it's very delicious!).

A perfect ending to a wonderful day!

What did you do this weekend?
Love, Jill
