Backyard Thrifting

28 Jul 2014

Hello my little duckies! One of the things I love most about Munich, the city I live in, is the sheer number of activities it offers. For example district backyard flea markets. It was my district's turn this Friday and while I didn't sell any of my own stuff this year, I could enjoy the other items even more! Sadly I didn't find anything I liked enough to buy, but just going around, peeking into people's backyards, getting to talk and joke with different people, is fun enough!

Every house participating was marked with colourful balloons, which was just so adorable!

I went with my lovely friend Miriam (Miri for short), who is - let's be honest - too gorgeous for her own good. We've been friends since second grade and it's always so fun to spend time with her!

It was getting dark at the end and the sky was lit with the most beautiful colours (photos can never capture it, really)

After walking for some hours we finally sat down and went for a cheeky snack (potato sticks & radler, which is a very german thing I think, basically beer + lemonade, it's very delicious!).

A perfect ending to a wonderful day!

What did you do this weekend?
Love, Jill

10 Favourite Free Fonts

25 Jul 2014

I've spent a large portion of today going through websites of free fonts. (Sadly, this is one of my favourite activities :3) If you have a blog you've most likely stumbled upon the one graphic to make or another. The fonts which are already on the computer don't really work for me most of the time, so here are some of the free fonts I ADORE to share with you!

(Most of them are even free for commercial use, just check with the license)

And that's it! I have a lot of other fonts to share, so tell me if you would like another post like this!

Love you all, Jill

Carrot Cake | Let's Bake!

24 Jul 2014

I usually associate Carrot Cake with the winter, but this one is just so light and incredibly fluffy, plus adding lemon makes it very fresh as well, that it is absolutely perfect for summer!
Why not give it a try?

Well to be fair we had too many carrots in the house and I had never made a Carrot Cake before, so I thought, why not?
I've tried to convert the ingredients into the U.S. system as well, so I hope I didn't make any mistakes :3

Ingredients:
375g/13oz flour
250g/9oz sugar
350g/12.5oz grated carrots
200g/7oz ground hazelnuts/almonds (whatever you prefer, i went half/half)
4 eggs
250g/9oz melted butter (cold)
1 package/4tsp baking powder
2 lemons
a little bit of salt
cinammon, if you want

for the icing:
a bit of lemon juice
icing sugar

Mix the flour, sugar, salt and hazelnuts/almonds well.

Wash and grate your carrots, just know that if you don't have a machine for that it'll take you a loooong time! (As it did for me, but I don't mind :3)

Add the carrots and mix again.

Then grate the zest of the lemons and extract the juice. Add both.

Seperate the egg whites and yolks and stir the yolks and the melted butter into the mixture. (If you want you can add cinnamon as well, I did without)

Whisk the egg whites until they form a foam and fold it into your mix.

Don't forget to grease your cake tin!

Then put it in the oven at 180°C/350°F for max. an hour, 40 min should be completely fine though. Just make the toothpick check :3

Now for the Icing part:

Squeeze the juice of half a lemon and add icing sugar until you're satisfied with the consistency of your Icing.

Put it on the cake, DONE!!

Tell me if you liked this kind of post, because I love baking/cooking and I'd love to share some more recipes! Also if you decide to make this cake, I'd love to know!

Little Moments

18 Jul 2014
Life has been very busy lately and I barely have the time to do a "proper" blog post, so here are some photos of how my life has been (though I've somehow managed to take pictures of the boring stuff and leave the more interesting stuff to memory alone...). Let me know if you like these sort of posts, so that I know if I should make more of them :3

  1.  I live in a very old house with lots of mosaic windows, I particularly love how the morning sun is shining throught the entrance door.
  2. I love to take walks without any direction and ending up in places I've never been before
  3.  Click on it to enlarge BECAUSE THERE IS A RAIBOW WOAH
  4. I've been babysitting this little munchkin a lot, he's so cute! (not showing his face though for obvious reasons :3)
  5. COCKTAIL PARTY (we were only 4 people and that was the first serving whoopsie)
  6. well... FAST FOOD PARTY, I live a healthy lifestyle, I do...
  7. watching Germany play (and win) football is something I don't really care much about, but my friends do, so yay

Well this reminds me that I should be more active on Instagram, I have these little spurs of excitement where I post a couple of pictures a day and then nothing for whole weeks. Definitely should be a little more consistent, as I really do enjoy it! Anyways, if you're interested here is my Instagram.

What have you been up to? Any exciting plans for the weekend?

Music Monday I

14 Jul 2014
Music is a huge part of my life, I listen to it daily, I write it, I record it. And since I always love recommendations, I thought why not start this little segment, where I share the music I've loved recently with you and you can tell me of the music you've loved recently, deal?

1. Joshua Radin - The Greenest Grass
I've been a fan of his for years, but I don't really keep up to date with his new songs. But do you know the feeling when you hear the first sentence of a song and you just know you'll love it? This was definitely the case and it made me once again think: "I wish I lived inside a Joshua Radin song!"

Out Of This Slump - OOTD

11 Jul 2014

Hello lovelies! So I haven't slept for even a second tonight and the bags under my eyes seem more like suitcases, but I just wanted to show you what I wore today. It's been raining without an end for the last week or so and the temperature has dropped a lot, so I can get away with wearing leggings under the dress. I bought this dress two years ago in Camden Market when I was visiting my family in London and I've worn it so much since then, I really love it. I stole the shirt from my grandma also quite some time ago, so I can get away with calling this look vintage... kinda. To top it off I wore my patent boots. Hope the wheather is nicer for you! See you very soon <3
